Shirley Jean Harrison

Shirley Jean Harrison was born in Big Springs, Texas on September 20, 1943. It was there that she first began to be actively involved in AA, sponsoring women and taking on service positions. She then lived in San Francisco from 1985 to 1993 where she continued her involvement in AA. One of her sponsees there referred to Shirley as a fiery red head who spoke her mind and was a true survivor. Shirley was a waitress, a flight attendant (where she got her love of traveling), and an established San Francisco street artist. Shirley created exquisite jewelry for her many clients.

Shirley came to Green Valley in 1993 where she continued to be widely known as a compassionate, caring sponsor to many in AA. She also was always available to do service work and held many various positions within the organization. Shirley had twenty-six years of sobriety.

Shirley is survived by her partner Butch Saulsbury and her fierce, loyal Chihuahua companion who stayed by her side until the end.

Butch and she first started dating at the 19th Hole Best Western Hotel in Green Valley. They were participating in a karaoke party. As a couple they enjoyed traveling and taking road trips. Shirley has traveled to many beautiful places including her favorites Moracco and South Africa.

Shirley will be sorely missed by her family and many friends. She will always be remembered for her loving, caring heart and the many contributions she made over the years for the AA community.
