In Loving Memory of Shawn Van McCune
October 28, 1971 – May 5, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Shawn Van McCune, who departed this life on May 5, 2026, at the age of 54.
Shawn was born on October 28, 1971, in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania. He attended Harmony High School in Harmony, Pennsylvania, before moving with his family to Tucson, Arizona, in 1990. Following his relocation, Shawn attended Parks College, where he continued his education and began building the foundation for a life marked by service, dedication, and resilience.
In 1993, Shawn answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. He served honorably during humanitarian operations in Bosnia and the Balkan States, demonstrating courage, commitment, and compassion. His military career came to an end in 1997 after he was wounded while serving his nation. Following his honorable discharge, Shawn returned home to Tucson.
Determined to continue moving forward, Shawn pursued further education at Pima Community College for two years. He later accepted a position with TransAm Trucking, relocating to Olathe, Kansas, where he lived and worked for six years. As health challenges arising from his military wounds became more significant, Shawn returned to Tucson, where he remained surrounded by family and friends for the rest of his life.
Shawn's life was defined by perseverance, loyalty, and service to others. He was a proud veteran whose sacrifices will never be forgotten. He touched the lives of many through his friendship, kindness, and unwavering strength in the face of adversity.
Shawn will be laid to rest with honor at the Arizona Veterans' Memorial Cemetery at Marana, Arizona.
He is deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his many friends and family members, whose lives were enriched by knowing him. Though he is gone from our sight, his memory, service, and spirit will remain forever in our hearts.
"May he rest in peace and may his service and sacrifice never be forgotten."
