Santiago Hernandez

The family of Santiago “Jim” Hernadez is deeply saddened to announce his passing August 21st, 2026. Santiago was born in Tornillo, Texas on July 3, 1939. Santiago was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Santiago is leaving the legacy of his loving family that will carry forward his generosity, laughter, and love. Santiago and his wife Evangelina Hernandez welcomed six children: Teresa Cocio (Barney), Lawrence Hernandez (Debora), Mary Nunez (Damian), Dorothy Edgar (John), Paul Hernedez, and Christipher Hernandez (Stephanie). He will be lovingly remembered by his children, his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.

Santiago cherished his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He often expressed his love through his untuned singing and turbulent rocking to an unknown song of his own making. Many of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren have treasured memories with Santiago and his many animals him and his wife cared for throughout the years. Bruises, motivational nudges, triumphs, and the occasional horse rides were happy occurrences at Big Tata Jim’s. His children all have fond memories of the infectious laughter while sharing many childhood stories over a huge home cooked family meal. Coffee, cards and well-meaning bickering while sneaking sweets was a loved pastime with his children.

Santiago has been reunited in heaven with his wife Evangelina, and daughter Mary. He will be missed by his surviving family, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Although our loss is great, we must remember the importance of love and unity that Santiago has instilled in our lives. Let us never forget the love Santiago has given no matter how that love hurts our hearts today.

Services will be held at The Saint Agustine Cathedral 192 S Stone Ave, Tucson, AZ 85701. The viewing will begin at 9:00 am, Rosary at 9:30 am and Mass at 10:00 am.
