Roderick Keith Harper Sr. was born on March 24, 1954, to his loving mother, the late Rosalind Ruth Lester, and departed this life on March 21, 2026, to begin his journey home.

He devoted 14 years to the United States Army, concluding his service at the rank of Staff Sergeant, and dedicated over 30 years of his life as a Registered Nurse.

Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, and was the rock of his family.

He shared a deep and unbreakable bond with his beloved wife, Dora Juanita Harper, who was laid to rest on January 19, 2023. Together, they built a life filled with love, strength, and memories that will live on through their children: Doreen Natividad, Michael Cuestas, Cristobal Harper, Esperanza Harper, Roderick Harper II (Adam), Veronica Monreal (Pablo), Eric Harper, Rebekah Cota, and Juan Diego Harper.

He is survived by his loving brothers, Jimmy Harper & Danny Hickman; a host of brothers and sisters-in-laws; four grandchildren, with one on the way; and his nieces and nephew.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Bennett Hickman; and many more loved ones who have now welcomed him home.

There was nothing he held more sacred than the love he shared with his family. His example of love, strength, and resilience shaped all of us, leaving a mark that will never fade.

In reflecting on his life, we hold onto the truth that: “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us,” (Gandalf; LOTR).

Dad chose to fill his time with love, sacrifice, and unwavering support—and because of that, we are who we are today.

With broken hearts and endless love, we—his children—say farewell:

Dad, thank you for your love, your sacrifices, and your strength. We will miss you every day; however, we will carry you with us in everything we do.

SSG Harper, R you have been released from your watch; SSG Harper, E reporting, rest easy, Staff Sargent, we got it from here, until we meet again.
