Ramon "Gordy" Amaro

With great sadness we regret to announce the passing of Ramon “Gordy” Amaro. He was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on August 7th, 2026. Born to Aurora Trujillo Samaniego and Ramon Amaro Sr.

After graduating High School, Ramon began his career the Asarco Copper Mine in Silverbell, Arizona, where he worked until his retirement.

Ramon had a creative spirit and a love for working with his hands. One of his favorite hobbies was working with turquoise and silver. He especially loved creating turquoise jewelry, putting his time, patience, and heart into every piece he made.

His love for the Southwest went even deeper. Growing up surrounded by his uncles, cousins, and grandparents, Ramon developed a lifelong love for the New Mexico mountains. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and searching for Native American artifacts. Over the years, he built an extraordinary collection of more than 300 arrowheads, along with pieces of pottery, turquoise beads, and precious stones. These discoveries were more than a collection to Ramon-they were pieces of history that he cherished deeply.

He lovingly created frames and displays for his treasures and proudly displayed them in his home. Family often encouraged him to donate these pieces to the library so that others could learn from and appreciate the history he had discovered, but they were simply too special for him to part with. They were part of his life, his adventures, and the memories he had made.

But perhaps what those who loved Ramon will remember most was his sense of humor. Ramon was a jokester who loved making people laugh. He was always the Big Kid of the group! His grandchildren especially remember the rides to school when their grandpa would yell out the window, “He loves you!” or “ She loves you!” just to embarrass them and make them laugh. He loved playing cards, spending time with his family and bringing joy wherever he went.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Aurora Samaniego and Ramon Amaro Sr, his brother Richard “Dickie” Amaro and his two sisters Josie Samaniego Lopez and Joana Samaniego Esquivel.

Though he is gone, the love and laughter he gave his family will remain. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date with family and friends in Texas.
