Patrick R. Mehall, fondly known as Pat, passed away peacefully on the morning of June 24, 2026, with his family at his bedside. He was 77 years old.

Born on March 17, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan, Pat was the middle of seven children born to John and Viola Mehall. In the early 1960s, the family moved to Fenton, Michigan, where the woods, lakes, and open spaces nurtured Pat's lifelong love of the outdoors. He graduated from Fenton High School in 1967, briefly attended Michigan State University, and soon answered the call to serve his country.

Pat proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His courage and dedication earned him two Bronze Star Medals and the Purple Heart. Following his honorable discharge in 1971, he returned home to Michigan, completed his education at Wayne State University, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance.

Pat built a successful career in finance, working with both large and small companies throughout the Grand Rapids area. While he took pride in his professional accomplishments, he also found joy spending time with his family. He cherished his sons, Matt and Todd, loved gatherings with extended family and friends, and found peace wherever he could be outdoors—whether hiking wooded trails, or kayaking the waters of the Great Lakes.

In 1992, Pat and his wife Linda, decided they had shoveled their last Michigan driveway. They left secure jobs, put their home on the market, and headed west to Phoenix. It was a leap of faith that became the best decision they could have made. Pat quickly fell in love with the beauty of the Sonoran Desert and spent countless weekends exploring the mountains and canyons that surrounded his new home.

Pat developed an interest in adobe home construction. After discovering classes in Tucson, he embraced the challenge of building his own home. In 2004, through determination and hard work, he completed the adobe house where he would happily live for the next 22 years. It was a home he planned and built believing that with enough perseverance, almost anything was possible.

Pat's travels took him to many remarkable places, but when asked just a week before he passed where his favorite places in the world were, his answer came without hesitation: the Grand Canyon, Havasupai, and The Magellan Rim, and Mt. Lemmon. Those breathtaking landscapes mirrored the qualities that defined him—strength, serenity, resilience, and wonder.

Above all, Pat will be remembered for the way he lived. He approached life with calm optimism, kindness and a steady "can-do" spirit that reassured everyone around him. Nothing seemed to ruffle him. He would offer advice, share a quiet laugh, always upbeat. Pat had a gift for making difficult situations feel manageable. His steady nature and gentle wisdom were among the qualities his family and friends admired. He possessed a remarkable ability to solve problems thoughtfully, to find the positive in difficult situations, and to make those around him feel supported and at ease. His quiet strength and love for life will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Pat is survived by his wife of 40 years, Linda; his sons, Matt (Lori) and Todd (Karissa); and grandsons, Charlie and Max. He is also survived by his sisters, Linda (Joe) Long and Becky Mehall, along with many nieces, nephews, and members of his extended family.

He was preceded in death by his brothers; Mark, Tom, and Jim; and his sister, Shelley Moore.

Pat chose cremation, and arrangements are being handled by Avenidas. In keeping with his wishes, no formal service will be held.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of the Valley for the extraordinary compassion, professionalism, and kindness shown to Pat and his family during his final days.
