Mary Evangelina Nuñez

Mary Evangelina Nunez, 66, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Mary was born in Tucson, Arizona, on August 16, 1959, to Santiago Hoyer Hernandez and Evangelina Flores Hernandez. She was a beloved daughter, devoted wife, cherished mother, and loving grandmother who dedicated her life to the people she loved most.

Mary is survived by her husband of 47 years, Damian Nunez, who was not only her husband but her everything, best friend and true life partner. She is also survived by her children, John Nunez, Michelle Nunez, and Diana Nunez; and her beloved grandchildren, Domonique Marie and Husband Angel Hermosillo, Ashley Michelle-Marie Hoyos, and Johnathan Alfredo Nunez; and great- grandchild Angelique Evangaline Hermosillo. She was preceded in death by her beautiful mother, Evangelina.

Mary found her greatest joy in being surrounded by her family. She loved cooking, spending time outdoors, and doing anything that brought the people she loved together. Whether she was baking a cake, preparing a meal, or planning a family event, Mary had a special way of making every occasion feel meaningful. Making others happy was one of the greatest expressions of her love.

To her husband, Mary was his best friend, his partner, and the love of his life, the true definition of love. To her children, she was the beating heart of their family—a constant source of love, strength, comfort, and guidance, and a beautiful example of what a mother should be. To her grandchildren, she was a source of warmth, joy, and unconditional love.

Mary will be remembered by her family, friends, and every person blessed to have known her as a kind, gentle, nurturing, and funny beam of light. She had a way of making people feel loved, cared for, and at home. Her presence brought warmth wherever she went, and her smile could brighten even the hardest of days.

Although our hearts are broken by her passing, the love Mary gave so freely will never leave us. Her laughter will echo in our memories, her lessons will live on through her children and grandchildren, and the love she poured into her family will continue for generations.

Mary was deeply loved, and she will be deeply missed. Her beautiful spirit, her loving heart, and her radiant smile will live in all of our hearts forever.

The Services will be held at The Saint Augustin Cathedral at 192 S Stone Ave, Tucson, AZ 85701. The viewing will begin at 8am,followed by a Rosary at 9:30, followed by a Mass. We will then meet at Holy Hope, 3555 N Oracle Rd, Tucson, AZ 85705, to lay Mary to rest.

There will be a celebration of life at 1530 N Stone Ave, Tucson, AZ 85705 immediately following burial.
