Maefern R. Amos
On April 7 of 2026 Maefern Amos age 95 was called home by her heavenly father.
Born August 27,1930 in Sheridan Indiana to Opal Mae and John Clark Renn.
Maefern graduated in 1947 from Sheridan High School and went on to attend business school in Indianapolis for accounting.
On August 5th of 1950 Maefern married Ned L. Amos in Phoenix Arizona, having traveled there with friends and family.
The couple would eventually settle on a forty-acre farm in Russiaville Indiana, having rebuilt after the Palm Sunday Tornado of 1965.
Maefern stayed on the farm with her three children for sixteen years following the death of her husband in November of 1966.
Maefern was active in the community as a 4-H leader, cub scout, boy scout, brownie, & girl scout leader. She was an avid bowler and had a mean Brooklyn Strike.
In November 1979 Maefern and her youngest daughter Carla moved to Marana, Arizona. Margaret stayed in Indiana as a Purdue University student and John as an Indiana Vocational Tech School student.
Arriving In Arizona Maefern continued to be active in 4-H activities and started raising dairy goats. She worked for several years for the Marana Office of the Department of Economic Security, retiring at the age of 68.
Maefern was active in the Community Christian Church and was the “secret church mouse”. Making and distributing Christmas stockings stuffed with “this and that” for the Church members.
Maefern was preceded in death by her parents, her three sisters, Clarann, Ladonna and Mardella also two brothers Paul and Athera. By her son John William Amos and her long-time companion Raymond Dallas Dozier.
She is survived by her daughter Margaret Woodruff (Billy), her daughter Carla and her two grandchildren Jessica Adams and Gunter Ray Adams (Miesha), and a daughter-in-law Christine Amos(John).
Maefern, we will miss the sound of your laugh, the sight of your smile and the twinkle in your eyes, usually before you said something unexpected. The things that made you special will be etched into the hearts and minds of many.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 25, 2026, at 4 p.m. at the Community Christian Church of Marana, 13610 N. Sandario Rd, Marana, AZ 85653.
A second Celebration of Life will be held in September in Russiaville, Indiana for family and friends there. Followed by private burial at Kempton Cemetery.
