Jean Alice Lister Horner ,September 27, 1938-February 24, 2026. Jean Alice Horner showed her love through food. You knew you were cherished when Jean made your favorite dish for your birthday, hosted a backyard gathering for a holiday, or insisted you take home enough leftovers to feed a small village—no notice required. She nurtured with both food and action, and her exceptional cooking reflected her rich, varied, and deeply compassionate life.Jean was born in Woodlynne, New Jersey, on September 27, 1938, to Mildred (Miller) Lister and Joseph Lister. She Graduated from Collingswood High School class of 1956.Even as a teenager, she was looking out for others—working on blood drive campaigns in high school and personally helping create the slogan, “The Life You Save May Be Your Own.” From the very beginning, caring for people and standing up for their health and rights was part of who she was.An activist at heart, Jean believed strongly that if young Americans were old enough to be drafted, they were old enough to vote—and to have a drink. She was a lifelong Methodist who sang in the church choir, yet she also delighted in the arrival of a new Pope, always curious, always open-hearted.Jean knew how to enjoy life. She loved dancing to Elvis, Glen Campbell, and Tom Jones; scratching an impressive number of lottery tickets; and spending time at the casino. And while she lovingly cooked nonstop for her family, she was perfectly content with a dinner of ice cream and Lay’s potato chips, occasionally paired with a sip of Manischewitz. Her home overflowed with love, food, and meaningful treasures—each one tied to a memory. Her legendary Christmas displays included every ornament ever given to her by a child or grandchild, and she could tell you exactly who gave it to her and when. Nothing—and no one—was ever forgotten.Jean was a protector, a nurturer, fierce in her love and endlessly funny. Like her cooking, she ran the gamut from comforting and sweet to bold and spicy. Her humor, her generosity, and her constant need to care for others defined her. She was truly a gift. She was welcomed into heaven by her beloved parents; her aunts and uncles; and her brothers Jim Lister (Linda) and Ben Lister and Great Granddaughter Shelby.Jean is survived by her sister, Lois Brunner; her heartbroken children William Horner (Janet), Stewart Horner (Mana), Helen Kalinkewicz (Mark), and Margaret Horner; her grandchildren Karl (Susan), Jacob, Lisa, Krystina, Jayce (Ashley), and Aerielle (Kevin); and her great-grandchildren Chloe, Sunny Jean, Livia, and Sofia. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.Waiting just beyond the Rainbow Bridge are all of her four-legged children—Puppy, Corky, Irving, Putty, Thor, and Coney—tails wagging, ready to lick her face and receive an endless supply of treats. Owen remains earthbound and will miss her dearly.Thank you, Grandma Jean, for all the love, hugs, kisses, laughter, and meals. We’ll see you again one day at the family mansion in heaven—and we promise to bring the scratchers. The family will have a private ceremony.
