Tom Wallace lived a rich and purpose-filled life defined by a grounding presence, an adventurous spirit, and an extraordinary capacity to understand the human heart. A devoted husband, father, son, brother, and steadfast friend, Tom brought an innate sense of calm to every room he entered and every relationship he nurtured. His keen insight into human nature allowed him to see straight to the truth of things—a rare gift that made him not only a cherished companion, but an exceptionally skilled therapist and leader. 

In his younger years, Tom embraced the ocean life, living near the waves in San Clemente, California, where surfing fueled his passion for the outdoors. Driven by a desire to serve others, he pursued higher education and earned a Master’s degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). This set the foundation for a distinguished career in public service. Tom dedicated over two decades as a Mental Health Director before being named the Health and Human Services Director of Mono County, California, where his leadership touched countless lives.

Living in the majestic Eastern Sierra was one of the great joys of Tom's life. Surrounded by mountain peaks, he immersed himself in world-class hiking, skiing, and cycling. More than anything, it was the ideal sanctuary to raise his two sons, Nathan and Jeremy, instilling in them a deep love and appreciation for the outdoors. 

It was in Mammoth Lakes that Tom met his soulmate and second wife, Chris. Together, they began building a vibrant new life rooted in shared devotion and adventure for 25 years in the Eastern Sierra. Upon retirement, Tom and Chris moved to the Tucson area, building a custom dream home in Vail, Arizona, where they spent another 19 years surrounded by the serene desert landscape they loved and their cherished Australian Shepherds.

Never one to slow down, Tom channeled his athletic drive into competitive cycling. Riding for Team Rhino, he became a formidable presence in the racing community, standing on the podium numerous times over the years. His grit on the bike was matched only by the gentleness of his spirit at home.

Tom’s unpublished book, The Grammar of Reality, was derived from his philosophical studies of the field of consciousness, which meticulously shows the depth of his knowledge and intellect.

In his later years, Tom faced the grueling journey of Lewy Body Dementia with grace, supported continuously by Chris, who served as his fierce advocate and loyal caregiver every step of the way. Tom’s legacy lives on in the quiet wisdom he shared, the sons he raised, and the enduring love he left behind.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Tom’s honor to The Lewy Body Society (or the Lewy Body Dementia Association) to support research and assist families navigating this disease.
