Colby Michael Sweet
March 11, 1984 – May 1, 2026
Colby Michael Sweet, 42, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away on May 1, 2026. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Colby lived a life defined by courage, curiosity, adventure, and an infectious love for the people around him.
Colby proudly served his country in the United States Army, retiring at the rank of Sergeant. His service took him across the globe — from the deserts of Iraq to the shores of Hawaii to the hills of Korea. The awards and commendations that filled his three-ring binder tell only part of the story of a man who gave his all to his country and wore that service with quiet pride. His family was — and remains — immeasurably proud of everything he accomplished in uniform.
After his military career, Colby continued to pursue excellence, earning his Bachelor's Degree in Project Management and building a thriving business from the ground up. He obtained his pilot's license, because for Colby, the sky was never a limit — it was an invitation. He loved motorcycles, the open road, and the kind of freedom that only comes from being out in nature.
He had a deep curiosity about where he came from, and devoted time to researching his family's genealogy — tracing the roots of the very family he loved so much. It was a passion that reflected the thoughtful, connected person he was at his core.
He had recently found his true happy place: a piece of land tucked in the mountains where the only sounds were the wind through the trees and birdsong. He had big dreams of building a home there, and anyone who knew him had no doubt he would have done exactly that.
Colby had his father's sense of humor and never missed an opportunity to make the people around him laugh. His mother still smiles remembering the nine-year-old boy who chased her around the yard with a garter snake — pure mischief with a grin to match. He brought that same lightness and joy to every room he entered.
Most of all, Colby was a devoted father. His daughter Kaia, age 3, made his eyes light up in a way nothing else could. The love he had for her was unmistakable, and his smile when she was near is something those who witnessed it will carry with them always.
Colby is survived by his daughter, Kaia Sweet; his mother, Teena Sweet, and father, Chuck Sweet; and his sister, Cassaundra Kesterke of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
He was loved deeply, and he will be missed every single day. May he rest in the peace of wide open skies and mountain winds.
In keeping with his generous and giving spirit, Colby honored his wish to donate his tissues to the Arizona Donor Network — a final act of kindness that will continue to touch the lives of others. Colby was cremated, and his ashes will be interred on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Southern Arizona Veterans' Memorial Cemetery.
